July 25, 2024 - Hampton Regional Medical Center in Affiliation with MUSC Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Mark Wikenheiser to Coastal Plains Physician Associates as an orthopedic surgeon.
“We’re excited to continue to expand the expertise of our specialists. With the addition of Dr. Wikenheiser, Coastal Plains Physician Associates now offers specialty care physicians with training from the Medical University of South Carolina and Mayo Clinic,” said Karen Terry, Coastal Plains Physician Practice Manager.
Wikenheiser is a 1988 graduate of North Dakota State University/Meritcare Hospital Consortium, and he completed his residency and internship with The Mayo Clinic Health System, where he has spent his medical career. Mayo Clinic is the top rated hospital in the nation.
Wikenheiser brings over 30 years of orthopedic surgical experience to Hampton Regional. He and his wife and made the decision to relocate to South Carolina to be close to their daughter, who works for the Medical University of South Carolina.
“My wife and I are loving this area,” Wikenheiser said. “When I decided to move to South Carolina, and this is the first place I wanted to come to.”
Wikenheiser grew up in a small town in North Dakota, and has spent most of his career working in small towns. He said he feels right at home in the Lowcountry region.
Wikenheiser treats fractures, sports medicine, and joint replacements, and looks forward to serving this community.
“We’ll try to provide that same kind of hometown, very personal care, to get you the fastest recovery possible,” Wikenheiser said.
